It is forecast that 2.5 million 1080p portable projectors will be shipped worldwide in 2014, according to a new IMS Research report titled “World Market for Portable Projectors - 2010 Edition”.

The rapid growth of the 1080p portable projector market is being driven by several factors. First, demand for large screen, high definition home entertainment is developing quickly. Second, consumer purchasing power is forecast to increase in most countries, making 1080p portable projectors more affordable. Third, competition in the 1080p market is forecast to intensify and thus average selling prices will drop quickly. There have already been a number of 1080p projectors released in 2009 which were priced at around $1,000. Fourth, LED lamps are forecast to be widely used in 1080p portable projectors as their brightness continues to improve. This further benefits consumers by extending the time between bulb changes, hence saving them time and money.

Market research analyst, Michael Liu commented: ”1080p projectors are better suited to screening full HD movies and TV programs. With more and more full HD movies and TV programs available in the near future, 1080p projectors are forecast to become more and more popular, moving into home application on a large scale”.
