IMS Research Expands Display, LED and CE Coverage through New Hires and Seoul Office - 20 April 2010

AUSTIN, TEXAS, April 19, 2010 – IMS Research, a leading electronics market research and consulting firm, is pleased to announce the expansion of its direct operations to Seoul, Korea and the addition of two analysts focused on the display, LED and consumer electronic markets.

According to IMS Research Senior Vice President Ross Young, “We are thrilled to be expanding our direct operations to South Korea given the important role its manufacturers play in the display, LED and consumer electronics segments. We are also thrilled to be bringing on Nam and Paul whose extensive experience, contacts, insights and language skills should delight our customers.”

Seoknam (Nam) Kim joined IMS Research in late March as Korea Research Director and is already contributing to multiple syndicated and custom reports. Mr. Kim is well educated with Masters degrees from the US and Japan, has worked at both LG.Philips LCD and Samsung LCD and is fluent in English, Japanese and Korean. Prior to joining IMS Research, Mr. Kim worked for ITEK Investment, a Korean venture capital firm, where he was responsible for the valuation and due diligence of start-ups and technologies focused on the display and semiconductor industries. Prior to ITEK, Mr. Kim worked in Korea’s LCD industry at both Samsung and LG. He started his LCD career in R&D at Samsung Electronics LCD Division in 1997 where he was involved in its wide viewing angle technology development and also participated in the feasibility analysis of its 4th Generation investment, while working in its strategic planning department. In 2005, he joined the LG.Philips LCD’s (now LG Display) overseas sales and marketing group responsible for accounts in Europe and Japan and was also responsible for new business development in the digital signage market. He holds a BS degree in Physics from Ohio State University, a MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Hitotsubashi University in Japan. Paul Erickson has also joined IMS Research as Senior CE Research Analyst. For over 10 years, Erickson has focused on consumer electronics, pay & broadcast TV, and digital content, including DVD and Blu-ray Disc, digital delivery, HD broadcasting and services, digital set-top boxes, IPTV, and digital rights management. In his new role at IMS Research, Erickson will be focusing on topics such as premium pay-TV content, Internet-delivered video, pay-TV operator ecosystems and digital set-top boxes. Prior to joining IMS Research, Erickson was most recently the Director of DVD and HD Market Research at DisplaySearch, and was featured at the 2009 International CES as an expert panelist speaking at the Blu-ray Disc Association press conference. Additionally, he has performed competitive analysis and strategy within the software industry for IBM and Vignette Corporation, as well as having consulted on a number of independent projects for Dell, Compaq, Silicon Graphics and AT&T. He has been quoted in a variety of industry publications and news outlets, including USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, Associated Press, NPR, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, CNN, BusinessWeek, Variety, Bloomberg, Wired, Home Media Magazine, PC World, CNET, Video Business, CE Pro and Cable & Satellite International. He holds a B.S. in International Business from Georgetown University, an M.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin, and can converse in English, Spanish, German, Mandarin and Taiwanese.
