IMS Research’s LED Research Manager Jamie Fox attended EuroLED for the 4th consecutive year. This year, Jamie spoke at the conference and outlined IMS Research’s current knowledge on the size of the LED industry and future growth. Fox discussed the tremendous growth in the LED industry that is already happening in 2010 and is expected to continue in the medium and long term. Growth is being driven by TVs in particular and also general lighting applications. The 2010 market size will be much higher than the 2009 size of $6.5 billion.
Fox presented the market size by region and application as well as showing further details for the two key markets of TVs and general lighting. Other topics such as the key advantages for LEDs in general lighting and LED Driver ICs were also discussed.
Fox spoke in the first session of the conference along with Rachel Buckley of DEFRA and Gert Van der Meer of Philips Lighting. Further presentations included Avago, On Semiconductor and National Semiconductor as well as many others.
A free LED light bulb picked up at the event, courtesy of Philips Lighting, is currently undergoing informal trials with a few IMS employees to see what they make of it!
IMS is also likely to return to the event in 2011. |
