Embedded Computer Boards Return to Growth in 2004 - 02 March 2004
After suffering two consecutive years of market contraction, embedded computer board manufacturers can breathe a sigh of relief, as IMS Research forecasts the market will return to growth during 2004. The market, which includes both passive and active backplane solutions, was estimated to be worth 541.0 million Euros in 2002, well down on the 2001 result. The market declined again in 2003 to approximately 534.0 million Euros, but a forecast return to growth in 2004 will result in the market being worth an estimated 661.2 million Euros by 2007, a CAGR during the forecast period of 4.1%.

More Tablets Needed - 02 March 2004
Users of rugged mobile computers expect their consumption of tablet PCs to significantly increase over the next three years. IMS Research’s most recent survey confirms the trend that tablet PCs will become more widely accepted in the rugged mobile computer market. IMS surveyed companies that purchased rugged mobile computers and found that some 17.6% expected to buy tablet PCs within three years, a significant increase compared to the current market penetration.

In a new examination of the European machine vision market, IMS Research has discovered that new products such as smart cameras are accounting for a greater share of market revenue. Whilst the sale of more traditional PC-based products has fallen over the past two years, sales of smart sensors, smart cameras and compact vision systems have continued to grow. In 2002 the revenue share of these non- PC-based products was 26.1%, up from 22.1% in 2001.

Decentralisation Drives Inverter Market - 27 January 2003
The uptake of motors with a built-in drive has to date been somewhat disappointing. After initial optimism and excitement regarding this technology, concerns over the reliability and price have curtailed acceptance of integrated motor and drive products. However, the trend towards decentralised control could provide a much needed boost to motors with a built-in drive as well as IP65-rated drives situated near/next to the motor.
